Permission to Write is a semi-annual publication and community aimed at amplifying the voices of black writers.

Who we are

Our goal is to cultivate the craft of independent Black writers, give them space to create, a platform to amplify their voices, and a community to support their journey. We want to help readers find their new favorite writer and help writers grow and find new audiences for their work.

“We are amplifying the voices of black writers through this platform. Diverse voices in literature and publishing matter."

— Ashley M. Coleman, Editor-in-Chief

This semi-annual publication features essays, fiction, creative non-fiction and more from writers of color from across the country. We provide a platform for marginalized voices in literature to be discovered. In addition, the journal features author spotlights, writing prompts, instructional material and more for writers to continue to hone their craft and cultivate their voice.
